Material Properties and Your Material Handling System

Vol. 36 #1, Spring 2011 - Material Properties and Your Material Handling System

Material characteristics can significantly affect the operation of your material handling system.
  • Free-flowing materials cause few problems
  • Regrind material is easier to handle if:
    • Grinder blades are kept sharp
    • Product is cooled down before it is ground – this reduces dust
    • Proper screen size is used, and maintained, to eliminate longs in the regrind
  • Additives must flow consistently for accurate feeding and blending – if not, special feeders will be required

Consult your material handling expert if you run into any of these issues and are looking for a solution.
