Dissimilar Metals
Vol. 24 #1, March 1997

New flat film/sheet dies constructed with dissimilar materials should have an extended heat soak time to allow the materials to expand.

Example: A die with stainless jaws or lips will expand at a different rate than the carbon steel body. If the process is started before the materials have time to "grow", leakage will occur at the ends of the die.

- Mark Sewak, LCI Corp.
