Melt Pressure
Vol. 17 #3, Dec. 1990

Melt pipes with pressure measurement capabilities downstream of filters are excellent indicators of variations in a process due to resin changes or process upsets. This is because the melt pipe functions like a capillary rheometer used to measure melt viscosity.

Changes in pressure at constant output (line speed and gauge) can point out variation in resin properties. Learning how to read these changes and compensate for them, when required, by changing melt temperature can make you a better troubleshooter.
