Barrel Brush

After removing a screw, the extruder barrel usually needs to be cleaned. The best tool is a standard chimney brush which looks like an oversized bottle brush. They are made of steel wire and are available in various diameters and have a threaded handle connection. Buy a brush about 1/2" bigger than the barrel diameter and make a handle with lengths of pipe. Brush out the barrel with vigorous back and forth strokes, while the barrel is hot. A new or clean screw won't go back into a dirty barrel!
