Breaker Plate Maintenance
Vol. 26 #1, March 1999

Breaker plates should be inspected for damage regularly. Breaker plates are often misused and abused. They are easily dropped and the edges can be bent causing alignment problems. Sometimes operators will use a hammer to drive the breaker plate out of the holder. This can peen over the holes causing a dead spot and poor flow conditions. When this occurs, one needs to ream out the holes to restore proper flow path. A reamer will provide a smoother inside surface versus the rough surface of a drilled hole.
