New screw shank lubricant
Vol. 23 #3, Dec. 1996
When replacing or installing a new extruder screw, it is important to coat the screw shank with a thin lubricant to prevent it from rusting in place.
Molybdenum disulfide or copper based anti seize compound works well. They can be diluted in a solvent and wiped onto the shank with a rag to get a thin coating. This is a case where more is not necessarily better.
