Small lab extruders generally see less frequent use than production machines, and, as such, especially with their small water passages for barrel cooling, are more susceptible to clogging with corrosion or dirt.
The use of treated water in a closed loop system and filters in the supply line can help. Otherwise rou tine inspections during downtime should be done.
