Manuals
Manuals are often over looked, but are usually critical when troubleshooting or repairing extruders and associated equipment. This not only includes the extruder manufacturer’s equipment and operator manuals, but also the manuals for temperature controllers, pressure indicators, drives, pumps, etc.
Decide on a filing system and location, and insist that they be returned to, and maintained at, this one location. Schedule a periodic review, to be sure nothing is missing.
Multiply your process hourly cost times 1 hr., or 10 hrs., or 1 day, that could be saved in waiting for outside help when a complete set of manuals might have identified the down time problem. ($600/hr. X 24 hrs. is $14,400/day!!) Make sure you have the manuals before the next crisis.
