Feed Section
Vol.20 #1, Mar., 1993
Unfortunately, the feed sections of most of our extruders are uncontrolled. Consequently, we see a range of temperatures from slightly over freezing to boiling.
The ideal feed section temperature for PVC pellets is 70 to 80 degrees F (room temperature). This will eliminate bridging and avoid condensation. Control the water flow to maintain a more consistent temperature and not waste water.
