Feed Backup When Working with Powder
Vol. 31 #2, Fall 2004

To minimize feed backup when work- ing with powder (in particular low bulk density): Direct the material flow so that it is introduced at the down turning portion of the screw. This is particularly valuable for feeding in twin-screw extruders. Make sure the feed opening is rectangular and is open to expose the entire width of the screw. Again, this is particularly valuable for twin-screw extruders.
