Sometimes, it may be necessary during the extrusion process to mark a change in the product. The one way to do this is to let the resin to run down the hopper to just above the feed throat opening, then drop in a half dozen contrasting color pellets and fill the hopper again with resin. In a matter of minutes, the contrasting color will appear in the extrudate. This will give you an actual mark in the product. This can also be a method to estimate the residence time for the polymer in the extruder.
