Purge material
Vol. 23 #1, May 1996

Reground cast acrylic makes an excellent purge material for extruder screws. It does not completely melt if run with barrel zones set under 400 degrees F and aggressively scours the screw.

Do not purge dies with it, however, since its high content of solids and high viscosity will produce dangerously high pressures and can damage delicate die surfaces and profiles. Only use cast acrylic purge with an open discharge.
