Gel identification
Vol. 19, #2, June 1992

Gels in film products should be analyzed to determine if they are unmelted cross linked polymer, or contamination from other sources. A microscope with a hot stage to melt the film can be used to identify the type of gel.

Depending upon which type of gel is present, the corrective action could be quite different.

Unmelt gels can be difficult to resolve if they are not identified. The corrective action for unmelt gels usually involves matching solids forwarding with melting.
