Screw Specifications
Vol. 17 #4, Mar. 1991

The Machinery Component Manufacturers Division of the SPI has recently published "Recommended Dimensional Guidelines for Single Screws", and "Recommended Guidelines for Single Barrels". These guidelines were developed by the manufacturers in the industry in order to provide all processors with an authoritative set of standards to insure that they receive a quality part when repairing or replacing a screw or barrel.

When either repairing or replacing a screw or barrel, in all of your correspondence, specify that you want your part to be built according to the appropriate guideline. This is your best assurance that your part will be built according to the same standards that were designed into your extruder.

You can obtain copies of these guidelines through your current supplier or by writing to: The Society of Plastics Industry, Inc., Machinery Components Manufacturers Division, 1275 K St., N.W., Suite 400, Washington, D.C. 20005.
