Cross Contamination (Extrusion Hint)
Vol. 27 #1, March 2000
Screws should be removed from the extruder for cleaning when changing polymers, to avoid cross contamination, especially for R&D tests. Elevate the barrel temperatures to make sure all residual polymer left in the screw is melted to make screw removal easier. Also clean the barrels with a long rod brush before installing the screw, whether or not the same or a new screw is used.
