Turn the screw by hand

Before starting an extruder, turn the screw by hand to be sure it is not frozen or stuck. This will eliminate a potential for damage to the screw and drive if a large starting torque results from a frozen screw.

Even large machines can be turned by hand with a large pipe wrench and some added leverage.
