Storage of Extruders
Vol.21 #2, Oct. 1994
An extruder can be seriously damaged in storage by freezing. Water is often trapped in some areas after disconnecting all water lines and draining the system. Cast iron feed throat jackets are particularly susceptible sometimes without a low point drain. They must be blown out with air or filled with antifreeze. Heat exchangers are also often piped so they will not drain.
