Screw Flight Cracks
Vol.20 #1, Mar., 1993
It is very common for there to be a large number of hairline cracks in the flight surfacing material of an extruder screw. This is not a problem as long as pieces don't come out of the surface.(Usually next to the edge of the flight.)
If this happens, have the screw repaired.
