Feed Throat Configuration
Vol.20 #1, Mar., 1993
When selecting an extruder, the shape of the feed throat is very important. Round throats are sufficient for 100% pellet feed, but when 20% or more regrind is added in with the virgin, a rectangular or oblong opening will improve the feeding characteristics.
The elongated opening also helps in eliminating bridging, problems in the throat.
